Kansas Wedding Articles » Wedding Planning
Doesn’t everyone love music at a wedding? We all think of the bride and groom’s first dance on the dance floor and what song they dance to. Then there is the bride dancing with her father and the groom dancing with his mother. Also the first dance for guests to join them on the dance floor. Music really sets the tone for the celebration. Smart brides and grooms know that if you have good music, you will have a great wedding reception. So it is important to select great music that will get everyone up and on the dance floor – pronto!
When selecting music for your wedding begin by thinking of what songs have the most meaning to you. You want to have your first dance song be something that means something to the two of you as a couple. Many couples lean towards choosing a classic, a real crowd pleaser. You traditionally do want to choose a slow dance song. But this is the bride and groom’s time: they can choose any song that they want. What songs really speak to you, what songs would be the most fun to dance to? Once you start thinking then song titles will start to come to you. When selecting a song for the bride to dance with her father and the groom to dance with his mother – consider asking the father and mother their opinions for a song. Maybe there is a special song that means a lot to one of them that you could pick. If both have a favorite song then try to play both songs.
Once you have your personal songs, you need to select the rest of the music for your reception. With this you need to keep everyone’s tastes in mind. Many people will encourage you to choose a wide variety of popular music that will encourage everyone to dance. But no matter the theme of your music, it should be very dance-able. If you choose a band or a dj, ask them for samples of the music so you can listen to it. If it is a dj ask them for song titles so you can download songs and see what they are recommending. You want songs that your teenage cousin will dance to and your great grandmother will dance to. It may feel hard to keep everyone happy for you do want to try to come up with crowd pleasing music. Try to play some romantic, slow-songs because you will certainly want to dance with your new spouse and those that are married or dating will want to slow dance. But people who are not coupled will still want to dance – so it will be helpful to play some faster music as well that people can group dance to.
A choice you will need to make about music is whether to have a dj or a band. Brides and grooms have been happy with either choice, or they have regretted either choice – it truly is a personal decision. Some like a band because it is live music. Others like the dj because it is popular music that everyone knows. The bride and the groom will need to interview their music providers to come to the best decision. It is important to select someone who you enjoy working with and feel will add to your wedding reception. Then either choice will be a great benefit.
